How To Repurpose Your Content (Work Smarter, Not Harder!)

We all know content is king, and we’re all doing our best to stay on top of TikTok, Substack, Threads, and any new platform that comes our way. But unless you’re a full-time content creator, it’s highly unrealistic to show up on every platform without feeling like you’re on a frantic hamster wheel.

We’re going to let you in on a little secret…you don’t have to! You can create just one piece of content and strategically repurpose it to feed all of the other platforms.

We’ll show you how to do this and save time while growing your brand and visibility.

When to Repurpose Content

We all consume *tons* of information each day. Research shows the average person consumes about 100,000 words each day, either read or aloud—about the length of a Harry Potter book.

Why we consume so much content and don’t read Harry Potter books every day is a topic for another day, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say that your content isn’t staying front and center in people’s minds for very long.

While we’ll be discussing how to spread new content across different platforms, you can absolutely apply this to your old content as well. Just make sure all of the information is still relevant. This is a really time-effective way to keep bringing new life to your work.

How to Repurpose Content

Ready to start with your content repurposing strategy?

For the purpose of this article, we’ll use blog content as our starting point, but this could easily work for your podcast, YouTube channel, or any other medium you create.

1. Social Media Posts

Social media is a repurposing no-brainer!

To clarify, this doesn’t mean posting a link to your blog post and directing people to read it. Instead, figure out the big picture points of your content and present them in bite-sized chunks of interesting information.

You can make this a really speedy process if you create some graphic templates. We find that these two templates will cover most of your content:

  • One slide post for a singular key quote or idea
  • Multiple slide carousel for multiple ideas or a multi-step process

Once you have these in place, you can lean on your brand colors to vary the look from post to post.

2. TikTok/Instagram Reels

Many business owners shy away from short-form video content, but you have no reason to skip out on it with your content in hand.

Remember those main points you identified for your social media posts? You’re going to present those ideas in video format.

Don’t get overwhelmed by fitting your entire blog post into one video. Just give your audience a 30-second to 1-minute tidbit of information.

The beauty here is that when you sandwich your blog content between a compelling opening and a call to action, you can use the most compelling points of it as a script, and nobody will ever know.

Of course, you can (and should!) develop a more detailed strategy, but repurposing this way will allow you to create multiple videos in less than 30 minutes.

3. YouTube Videos

One of the more challenging parts of creating YouTube videos is researching a topic and writing a compelling speech. Kind of like writing a blog post…oh wait…

If you’re ready to make your YouTube debut, you can create a longer-form piece of video content easily by, once again, using the content you’ve already written as a script. Consider using the subheads from your blog as your key points and pick the 1-2 most interesting sentences from each one to include in your video. Maybe you make it fun by shooting in your kitchen as you do the dishes, or maybe you want it to be more professional and film it in your office.

Either way, think about how powerful video content can be, especially when someone can see the person who is sharing those great ideas—you!

Consider adding graphics or other visual elements to keep it interesting. It’s a great way to give new life to the valuable content you’ve created.

4. Podcasts

A podcast and a YouTube channel go hand in hand. If you record a YouTube video about your blog post, you can strip the audio from it for a podcast. You’ll want to add some podcast elements, like an introduction and music, but the bulk of the work is done.

5. Newsletters

Did you know that the average open rate for email newsletters is about 38%? To give you some comparison, the engagement rate is less than 1% on Instagram. Your newsletter audience has opted in to receive content from you, which is why they are so engaged. Don’t overlook it!

When repurposing a blog post for a newsletter, please don’t copy and paste your entire blog. Remember that you’re showing up directly in somebody’s inbox. Your content should be personable and relatable. We recommend sharing a personal story or making a connection to a current event or trend before you get into the blog content you’re there to share.

A newsletter is a great place to incorporate other content you’ve created around the topic as well. You can use your social media graphics here or link to a YouTube video or TikTok you’ve made to give people various options for consuming your content.

6. Guest Content

This one is super easy and effective. Submitting guest content means featuring your work on a blog or website within your industry. Websites are usually really agreeable to this, as they don’t have to write new content themselves, and it provides value to their readers. This gives you visibility in front of a new audience and puts your content in one more place. Talk about a win-win!

As you can see, there’s a lot you can do to repurpose your content. Even more than the ideas we’ve shared! We hope this gives you some ideas and ultimately helps you work smarter, not harder 😉
